John Muir Collection

This group of paintings was inspired by specific John Muir quotes. I love nature and being outdoors. The work of John Muir and his life inspires me. I thought of a few of his more popular quotes and painted what came to mind to create this series. Each painting is available for purchase as an 8×10 glicee print. You can contact me for more information.

Between Two Pines

Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.”

John Muir

I wanted it to feel like you could walk through this doorway of possibility. The white is meant to show the duality in discovery. Does it exist before we find it? Is there something just waiting for us beyond that white space?

Wild World

All the wild world is beautiful and it matters but little where we go.”

John Muir

Everything in our world is beautiful, even the small universe of a butterfly. I wanted to remind us that we can find beauty anywhere, we don’t have to go on some fancy trip or take a long journey, we just need to step outside our backdoor.

The Clearest Way

The clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness.”

John Muir

Clarity for me comes when I’m outside exploring the natural world. What better way than through the freedom of backpacking. This painting is an interpretation of a photograph I took while backpacking in the Santa Ynez mountains above Santa Barbara, CA.

Before It Gets Dark

The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.”

John Muir

This image is from my time on the North Coast. I created this painting from a picture I took right around sunset on a beautiful fall day. I wanted to evoke this mystery in how the ocean can be so calming and inviting while also mysterious and alluring. Something to explore and yet be humbled by.
